A true creative, Tomi Kono started his career as a classically trained Japanese hair stylist. His passion for hair soon lead him to begin exploring more creative hair and head designs, leading to Tomi’s very own head prop designs.

In 2007 Tomi moved to London and branched into session styling, quickly shooting for Dazed & Confused, i-D, and 10 Magazine. He continued to exhibit his headpieces and began using these in his editorials, making bespoke pieces.

In 2013 Tomi moved to New York and joined Julian Watson Agency. Since then Tomi has shot regularly for  Vogue Italia, Vogue Japan, Vogue China, Vogue Germany, Vogue Korea, Interview, W Magazine and V Magazine along side photographers Patrick Demarchelier, Ben Hasset, Annemarieke van Drimmelen, Kacper Kasprzyk, Sean and Seng, Julia Hetta, Jeff Bark and Mark Peckmezian.

Tomi Kono has collaborated with leading designers such as Junya Watanabe commes des garçons , Aganovich, Derek Lam, Proenza Schouler, Jil Sander and Frame.

His first book ‘Head Prop’s’ was published worldwide in April 2017 under his publishing company Konomad, with exhibitions featuring his book held in New York, Tokyo and Paris.

After his book success Tomi turned his focus to learning the art of wig making from scratch. Knotting, colouring, weaving and individually stranding each hair, Tomi now creates bespoke wigs, as well as exhibiting these, his wigs are often featured in his session work.

Tomi continues to push boundaries as an inventive and cutting edge hair, wigs and head props stylist.
